Coastal Engineering

Coastal Engineering

Coastal construction takes place where the land meets the water. Coastal areas and river banks have always been important to trade and are therefore vital links in the economic chain.

Coastal works, just like ports, are very much influenced by natural phenomena such as tidal change, wave action and extreme weather conditions, which is why they call for special expertise. The fact that we have advised a large number of multinationals on optimising port layouts is proof of our enormous expertise in this field.

The Xbloc®, which DMC started to to develop in 2001, can be seen as breakthrough in the design of breakwaters and is expected to become even more important in the future. This innovative concrete element was designed to reinforce breakwaters, which usually consist of a core of riprap covered with a layer of larger stones.

DMC has extensive experience in the design of the following structures:

  • Breakwaters and shore protection
  • Outfall
  • Pipeline design
  • Offshore structures
  • Beaches
  • Reclamations
  • Morphology
  • Rivers
