DMC designed all the civil structures for the radioactive waste storage facility at Borssele.
The design work for this design and construct contract was spread over several phases of the project from 1993 to 2000. The building (77x45x16m) consists of three main sections: a handling area, three non-heat-producing waste storage cells with a natural convection cooling system. The outer walls are designed for radioactive shielding and to resist adverse loads such as aircraft impact. The foundation required entensive soil improvement by preloading.
