Floating Pod, Singapore

Project type:
Preliminary design

As part of the redevelopment of Marina Bay and the old Clifford Pier in Singapore a new boutique hotel has been developed for Precious Quay Pte Ltd in Singapore. Attached to the hotel are a floating spa and meeting rooms as well as a floating entertainment pod. This pod is a circular structure with full glass walls that will give the occupants the feeling they are virtually at the water level while offering unrestricted views of the surrounding skyline.

As part of the development a short pedestrian bridge is also required. As the small bay behind the bridge needs to be accessible and the span is relatively short an eccentric pivot bridge was developed by DMC in Singapore. Access pontoons, stairs and gangways are other parts of the development.

DMC has been responsible for the preliminary design of the floating structures and other works in close collaboration with the architects and local (safety) authorities including developing 3D visuals of structural design of the pivot bridge for discussions with the stakeholders. DMC prepared tender documents and technical specifications for the structures for EPC tender. The project will be completed in 2011.
