The deep water berths on the north and south sides of Tema Port's no. 2 quay had to be extended because of the increasing size of modern container vessels that call there. DMC did the conceptual and detailed design for this extension for BAM company BAM International, which had been awarded the design and construct contract in 2003.
The project consisted of building three new quay walls connected to the existing area. The walls are gravity walls of precast concrete block with a cast-in-situ concrete capping beam and an underwater concrete foundation on the seabed consisting of solid rock.
