BoxBarrier® Emergency Flood System
Due to climate change countries around the world are vulnerable for sea level rise, but also for higher river discharges. Problems occur where the rivers meet the sea if the rivers have to discharge more water while the sea level rises. The excess water in the rivers cannot flow into the sea when the sea level rises, leading to an increased risk of flooding in large areas. Also due to climate change, rain fall intensities increase. High rainfall intensities can lead to local flooding.
Emergency flood systems are required, when the level of the primary flood defence system is not adequate or at locations where a flood defence system was not yet foreseen.
A new flexible emergency flood system is the BoxBarrier®. The system is characterised by its flexibility and easiness. The system uses its opponent, the water, to retain high floods and wave overtopping.
