XStream blocks in River IJssel, The Netherlands

As a direct result of climate change our rivers are experiencing much larger differences between high and low water levels. This is caused by heavier rainfall in shorter periods of time exacerbated by dry spells and longer periods of drought. On top of that, growth in our economies and increasing populations result in more traffic on our waterways. Keeping them open and in good health is key. This requires efficient, reliable and sustainable river maintenance.

The Costa Norte LNG Terminal in Colón is the first LNG facility to be built in Panama, located near the Caribbean entrance of the Panama Canal. The LNG Terminal development will supply gas for two power blocks of 380 MW each. In October 2016 the main contractor POSCO E&C awarded the design and construct contract of the Marine Civil works to the joint venture of BAM International and ICONSA. Within this joint venture DMC is responsible for the design of the marine facilities, consisting of a jetty for (un)loading LNG vessels.

First international project with XblocPlus

Delta Marine Consultants have signed a license agreement with Swiss company SEL AG for the use of XblocPlus in the Marina Porto Albania Project. The blocks envisaged to protect the marina against severe storm waves in the Adriatic Sea are 2.5m3 XblocPlus on the breakwater trunk in combination with 3m3 Xbloc units on the breakwater head. Block production is expected to start early 2019 and the objective is to complete the breakwaters by early 2020. The new Marina Porto Albania project will be the first international application of XblocPlus.

In August 2017 BAM International has been awarded a contract for the design and construct of the Tanjung Jati B Power Station Units 5 and 6 extension, located near Jepara, Central Java, Indonesia for which Delta Marine Consultants made the design.

In January 2017, Singapore based Sembcorp Industries signed a build-operate-transfer agreement with the Ministry of Electricity and Energy of Myanmar, for the development of 225-megawatt Sembcorp Myingyan gas-fired power plant in Mandalay, Myanmar. The power plant becomes one of the biggest gas-fired power plants in the country, upon commissioning in 2018.

Delta Marine Consultants was appointed for the planning and design of the civil and structural work of the River Water Intake System for this Independent Power Plant Project.

Placement Trials Afsluitdijk

The new concrete armour unit XblocPlus will officially be introduced at the ICCE conference in Baltimore this summer. DMC will be present with a booth and two paper presentations.

DMC has developed a new armour block which is called the XblocPlus. This block is based on the experiences during 15 years of Xbloc projects around the world. XblocPlus is a single layer concrete armour unit which is placed in a regular pattern: all the blocks on the slope have the same orientation, similar to roof tiles. This simplifies the placement process and it simplifies the approval process.

DMC signs Xbloc license agreement with China Harbour for placement of Xblocs at the Lekki Port project in Nigeria. Xblocs of 2, 3, and 5m3 will be placed at the breakwater of Lekki Port.

Lekki Port will be a multi-purpose, deep sea port at the heart of Lagos. For more project information please click here

The EX 1900 ton was received on the project site of Calais Port 2015. It will be used to place the 14m3 Xblocs (33.6ton) on the breakwater. Please click here for more information.

DMC has signed a license agreement with a JV of Kolin and Bayburt for the use of Xbloc in the Filyos Port Project in Turkey. The design of the breakwaters was carried out by Arti Proje and physical model tests were carried out at the AYGM hydraulic facilities in Ankara.

The project will comprise Xblocs of 4m3, 8m3 and 10m3 with a total quantity of 161,000m3.

Xbloc production is well underway and block placement has recently started.

The Xbloc team will be present during the ICE Breakwater Conference in Liverpool from 5-7 September. We will present 3 papers about our projects and research topics and we will have a booth in the exhibition area.

16m3 moulds have arrived on site

On site of the Istanbul new airport project, 16m3 Xbloc moulds have arrived. These large Xblocs will be placed at the roundhead of the breakwater, which provides shelter from the waves from the Black Sea.
