Quay Walls Maasvlakte 2, Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands

West of Rotterdam the harbour area is extended with an extensive reclamation project called Maasvlakte 2. In the first stage of the development of Maasvlakte 2 two container terminals will be realised. Each terminal will be provided with a deep water quay fit to accommodate the largest container vessels, and a barge/feeder quay.

The Port of Rotterdam decided to reclaim the “Maasvlakte 2” area from the sea to be able to develop new harbor activities. Licenses have already been granted to two container terminal companies: APM Terminals and Rotterdam World Gateway. Quay walls have been built to support these activities by a combination of BAM Civiel and Volker Wessels. Delta Marine Consultants were heavily involved in the tender design and the detailed design of these structures.
